Phase A - Status quo as a largely virtual campus
(began March 16, 2020)
Overall Objective: Protect the health and safety of students, faculty and staff as pandemic is declared
Goal 1: Reduce as much traffic and physical presence as possible on campus
Goal 2: Sanitize campus and lock down unused areas
Goal 3: Outline capacity of offices, classrooms, meeting spaces, gathering spaces
Goal 4: Determine optimal traffic flow for next phases
Goal 5: protect the health and safety of faculty, staff, and students who will be physically present on campus
Goal 6: Communicate plan for the Fall
Timeline – 6-12 weeks
Campus-wide plans, policies, or procedures developed for communications, traffic flow, class schedules/timetables for 2020-21, defining blending learning terms and legal considerations.
Phase A activities:
- Campus was open on a limited basis for those who needed to return to their offices or labs
- campus was sanitized and locked down
- Anyone who can work remotely worked remotely
- Anyone who had to access to their office had to contact Physical Plant and/or security to make sure they have access and to make sure their space is sanitized after they leave
- Students who are unable to return home stayed in residence in single rooms with social distancing measures. Food service was provided on a takeaway basis.
- All classes were strictly online and the 2019-2020 academic term was completed
- Outbound or inbound travel for exchanges, courses, research, or other King’s related trip was cancelled
- Physical Plant mapped out room capacities and traffic flow
- Use of non-medical masks was encouraged for any faculty, staff, or student that attended campus
- Regular business and services were virtual
- Students were assigned to particular washrooms in residence
- Residence students left campus as soon as possible and were offered refunds for the balance of term
