Rachel Braden (nee Crawford)
King's Degrees: BA ’11 (Criminology), BSW ’13, MSW ’14
Current Position: Child Witness Project Coordinator, London Family Court Clinic
Primary Handler of Merel, National Service Dog
What did you like best about King's?
Because of the small class sizes, faculty are able to get to know students and learn about their interests. This is particularly helpful in Social Work when you're trying to find the right field placement. The sense of community at King's really makes it feel like home.
How did King's Influence your career path?
I completed my Social Work field placements at the London Family Court Clinic. I gained experience with children and families connected to the justice system and it was during my placement with the Child Witness program that I discovered my true passion.
What is your current job?
As Child Witness Project Coordinator, I help prepare and support children and youth under the age of 18 who are required to testify in court. In 2016, I became the primary handler of Merel, a specially-trained facility dog, who provides a consistent, calming presence to children/youth as they navigate through the justice process.
