The King's Political Science Students' Association (KPSSA) will host a Municipal Election Panel Night on Monday, October 3, 2022, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Joanne and Peter Kenny Theatre. This will be the first mayoral debate of London's  2022 municipal election campaign.

“We want to amplify young voices in this election. The panel will be an important event to the King’s community as this is the time to change and confront the issues that affect students and the London community. We look forward to having mayoral candidates and students around campus join us for this informative event,” says Ava Hassan, Vice-President of Events for the KPSSA.

The KPSSA decided to host this panel to help promote the election, raise awareness about the election for young people in our community and encourage student involvement and voting.

Hassan says often students don’t have the time to research information about candidates. The Panel Night will provide an opportunity for students and the audience to learn about the importance of voting, meet the candidates and ask questions about the platforms and goals of each mayoral candidate in advance of the municipal election on October 24. Topics are expected to include transportation, COVID-19, racism and inclusion, student affairs, climate change, homelessness and activism, and affordable housing.

Candidates taking part in the panel will include London mayoral candidates Brandon Ellis, Norman Robert Miles, Josh Morgan, Johanne Nichols, Sean O’Connell, Khalil Ramal, and Sandie Thomas.

An on-campus polling station at Western in the University Community Centre Community Room will be open for advance voting on October 11 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Community members attending must register through Eventbrite and be fully vaccinated (two COVID-19 vaccines).
