Dear King’s community,

After weeks of communicating to the students, staff, faculty, and other members of our community about King’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, I must now turn my attention to other world events which also affect us here at home. Over the past week, incidents in the United States and Canada have reminded us of the systemic racism that still exists in our society.

We will never condone or tolerate racism or prejudice and instead, we celebrate our diversity. King’s University College strives to foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive climate for the black, Indigenous, and racialized members of our community, but there is still much work to be done. We must continue to provoke positive change.

Many may feel anger, sadness, and fear in the wake of these horrific events. We understand and encourage everyone to utilize the wellness resources available at King’s by visiting https://www.kings.uwo.ca/current-students/student-affairs/mental-health-and-wellness-at-king-s/. In addition, the King’s University College Students’ Council continues to provide student-led supports.

It is important to have courageous and difficult conversations for the betterment of our campus and community. Each of us have a role to play in how we choose to act toward each other and to call out injustice when and where we see it.

Each of us belongs at King’s; apathy and racism do not.

I welcome your feedback, concerns and suggestions at principal@kings.uwo.ca.

We have continued to take care of this place, but we must also take care of ourselves and, more than ever, each other.

Sincerely,

Dr. David C. Malloy

King’s Principal
