Men’s Hockey

Over the weekend, the Mustangs carried two wins over both UOIT and York. On Jan. 25 the team won 5 to 3 over the UOIT Ridgebacks. Again on Jan. 26, the Mustangs beat the York Lions 4 to 2 at the Thompson Arena. The win on Saturday placed the Mustangs at 20-4 on the season placing them at first place in the OUA. Also at Saturday’s game, King’s Josh Unice stopped 20 shots to earn his CIS leading 18th win of the season, three more than any other goaltender in the nation. Next up for the Mustangs is a road game on Friday against the Windsor Lancers. Western then returns to Thompson Arena on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. for a return match with York.

Women’s Swimming

The Mustangs dominated on home turf this past Jan. 26 with many strong individual performances as well as a 3-0 team victory over Waterloo, Laurentian, and Brock in relay events. The team looks to carry the momentum of their success into the OUA Championships, held in Toronto from Thursday February 7th to Saturday, February 9th.

Track and Field

The Mustangs had a strong showing at the 18th Annual McGill Team Challenge on Jan. 25 and 26, placing third overall for women’s and fourth for men’s out of the 27 teams in attendance. King’s Matt Brisson won bronze for his performance in the 60m hurdles, Jodian Daley placed eighth in long jump with 5.28m, and Emma Crombeen placed sixth in pole vault at 3.40m. Next week the Mustangs will take their top middle distance group, top horizontal jumpers as well as a men's 4 X 400m team to race at the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame while the rest of the team will travel to York for the York Open.
