Of the students selected for this year’s East-West bowl, six are Western Mustangs and two are King’s students. Congratulations to offensive lineman Gregoire Bouchard (#52) and running back Cedric Joseph (#21) on being selected to attend this special week of football. This selection recognizes their exceptional roles for the Vanier Cup-winning Mustangs.

The East West Bowel brings together over 90 of the top U Sports football players from across Canada for a week of practices and evaluation, culminating with the annual all-star game. A national committee of U Sports head coaches selects the participants from a pool of players nominated by their respective universities.

Players are housed by the Universite Laval for the week and attend daily practices and meetings where they are evaluated on both their physical capabilities as well as their knowledge and understanding of the game.

“I hope to get some new tips & techniques from the coaches that I can apply next season. This is an amazing opportunity for me and the other mustangs participating in the east west bowl to show what made our team so successful last season; a great team spirit, work ethic and the desire to win,” says Bouchard. He will begin his fourth year at King’s studying Criminology in September. Joseph is working towards completing a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology and a minor in Sociology.

CFL coaches will be in attendance to offer coaching as well as to do some preliminary scouting.

Players from both the West and East team will vie for coveted spots on the CFL Scouting Bureau Top 20 Prospects List – published in August, December and April.

Université Laval will host the 2018 U SPORTS Valero East-West Bowl for the second consecutive year.

This year’s game will be hosted at TELUS-U.L. Stadium on Saturday, May 12, 2018.  Watch it live on YouTube.
