Written collections policies assist the subject librarians in complementing selections made by faculty, and provide some assurance that library collections are developed in a manner consistent with the objectives and priorities of the academic department, School of Social Work, or interdisciplinary program. Collections policies are revised and updated as required.

The Cardinal Carter Library endorses both the Ontario Library Association's Statement on the Intellectual Rights of the Individual (November 7,1998) and the Canadian Library Association Statement on Intellectual Freedom and Libraries (September 27, 2015).
