Extramurals fill the gap between varsity athletics and intramural sports and provide additional opportunities for higher-skilled athletes to continue to compete in their chosen sports.

King’s University College is an associate member of Ontario Collegiate Recreation (OCR). The OCR sanctions and administers extramural sports in which teams representing their campuses compete against other college and university campuses for either an individual event championship or an overall extramural sport championship. Neither Western nor any other Western-affiliated college participates in the OCR.

For the 2023-24 academic year, King’s will offer an extramural men’s basketball team that will participate in five to six OCR tournaments (and other events) between October and March. Most tournaments are one day and transportation to and from the sites is provided. In past years, King’s has competed against teams from Humber, Sheridan, Conestoga, Centennial, Seneca, Laurier (Brantford), Mohawk, and George Brown. The team will practice on Tuesday (8-9:30 p.m.) and Thursday (7-8:30 p.m.) nights at local high school gyms.

The team is coached by Professor Jason Neyers, a director of Thames Valley Basketball Academy, who is NCCP registered, and has a Level 2 certification from Basketball Canada. The team is always looking to add new players. If you are interested in representing King’s, please contact him at jneyers@uwo.ca or 226-239-4591.
