Congratulations to King’s student-athlete Keon Edwards, who has been signed by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Edwards, a fourth-year BA Sociology major with a minor in Criminology, was a running back for the Western Mustangs. He won the 2022 Larry Haylor Award for Ontario University Athletics’ (OUA) Most Valuable Player, rushing for over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns in the regular season.

He played in 28 games over three seasons with Western, registering 373 carries for 2,653 yards with 27 rushing touchdowns and adding 19 receptions for 228 yards and one touchdown.

Edwards was named team MVP for the 2021 and 2022 seasons as part of the annual Mustangs Awards. He also earned a Purple Blanket at the 82nd annual Mustangs Awards Banquet in 2022. He was named a second team U Sports All-Canadian in 2021 and a first-team All-Canadian in 2022.

He was part of the Western Mustangs’ Vanier Cup-winning team in 2021 and helped lead the team to a victory in the Mitchell Bowl in 2022.

“Our congratulations to Keon. Our goal at King’s is to provide the space and place where all students can develop their own sense of purpose and pursue their passions. All the best to Keon as he pursues his dreams in professional football,” says Joe Henry, Dean of Students.
