The Western Mustangs football team, featuring dozens of King’s students-athletes, will be playing in their second consecutive Mitchell Bowl, after a 44-16 victory against Queen’s in the Yates Cup on November 12.

King’s student-athletes Evan Hillock (quarterback), running backs Keon Edwards and Keanu Yazbeck and receiver Seth Robertson were key to the Mustangs’ victory.

As part of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Awards, Edwards received the Larry Haylor Award for Player of the Year. Edwards averaged a national-best 129 rushing yards per game with 1,032 ground yards on 132 carries and scored nine touchdowns during the regular season.

Defensive back Daniel Valente, Jr. won the President’s Award for Outstanding Defensive Player. He made five interceptions during the regular season, including three in the season opener against Guelph.

Hillock, Edwards, Valente, Jr., and defensive lineman Malcolm Hinds were named to the OUA All-Star Team.  Running back Edouard Wanadi, offensive lineman Erik Anderson, and defensive back Richard Aduboffour made the second team roster.

The Mustangs will take on Université Laval in the Mitchell Bowl on November 19. The winner will advance to the Vanier Cup, which will, for the first time ever, be hosted at Western on November 26. Tickets can be purchased at westernmustangs.ca, but hurry as it is nearly sold out!
