Shine the Light

8th Annual Shine the Light on Woman Abuse Campaign

Imagine if you dread stepping out of the door of your workplace because you know it brings you one step closer to home. Sadly, this is the reality for far too many women. On average, every six days a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner.

This is why the London Abused Women’s Centre (LAWC) launched the Shine the Light on Woman Abuse campaign 7 years ago. To coincide with Woman Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month in the Province of Ontario, this campaign has grown substantially. The goals of the Shine the Light on Woman Abuse campaign are to show abused women and their children the residents of London support them in their quest to live a life free from violence and abuse; to shift the feelings of blame and shame abused women so often feel from their shoulders to the shoulders of those men who abuse them; and to raise the profile of resources in the community that can help support abused women through their journey.

King's will be dressed in purple in support of this campaign.

If you have any questions or are looking for further information to get yourself and/or your organization involved, please call Jennifer Dunn at London Abused Women's Centre at 519-432-2204.
