The Write Place is proud to present a reading by Shani Mootoo.
Shani Mootoo was born in Ireland and grew up in Trinidad. Her debut novel, Cereus Blooms at Night, was a finalist for the Giller Prize and the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize. She is the author of several other highly acclaimed works, and her most recent novel, Polar Vortex, was also a finalist for the Giller Prize. She is the author of two books of poetry, The Predicament of Or, and Cane | Fire. A filmmaker and visual artist, she has written and directed several videos, and her paintings and photo-based works are exhibited internationally.
She is the recipient of a Dr. James Duggins Outstanding Mid-Career Novelist Award, the Writers' Trust Engel Findley Award, and has been awarded an honorary Doctorate of Letters from Western University. She lives in Southern Ontario, Canada.
