King’s Social Work Professor, Dr. Tracy Smith-Carrier will be applying her extensive knowledge on poverty, social welfare, and social policy in two important discussions in the coming week.

Dr. Smith-Carrier has been invited to join the Honourable Ted McMeekin, former Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and current MPP for Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale and in his “Kitchen Cabinet” series to look at issues related to rural poverty. McMeekin is seeking input on a report for Premier Kathleen Wynne on the issue. The meeting will be held at Queen’s Park on Thursday, February 23rd.

In addition, Dr. Smith-Carrier will be participating in a panel discussion on poverty and the automation of work for TVO’s flagship current affairs program, The Agenda with Steve Paikin. The program will be broadcast in front of a live studio audience on Sunday, February 26th at Fanshawe College with airings to be held on Tuesday, February 28th. To register for the event, click here. Dr. Smith Carrier is a faculty member in the School of Social Work at King’s. She is also a researcher at the London Poverty Research Centre at King’s.
