The Board of Directors at King’s University College and CUPE Local 5265 ratified a collective agreement on April 20th which represents all King’s part-time faculty. Negotiations for the first collective agreement started in June, 2015 and finished in February, 2016. The agreement covers salaries, benefits and working conditions for 252 part-time faculty across all departments at King’s.

Both King’s and CUPE appreciate the collaborative process and collegial spirit demonstrated by the bargaining committees throughout this process. “This first agreement with CUPE and King’s formalizes existing practices as well as introduces new processes that both parties will adjust to over the course of the agreement,” says Veronika Elsie, Director of Human Resources at King’s University College.

Brian Humphrey, CUPE National Representative, says, “I look forward to continuing to work with King’s University College and CUPE Local 5265, in the good labour relations climate already established, to address their shared goals and concerns.”

Dr. David Sylvester, King’s Principal, credits the negotiating teams for reaching an agreement in a timely manner. “We welcome CUPE to our campus,” says Dr. Sylvester. “This has been a professional and smooth negotiation which bodes well for our future relationship.”
