King’s students will have the opportunity to submit feedback on courses and teaching, as part of the first-term Student Questionnaires on Courses and Teaching (SQCT), open from November 18-24. 2019.

The 2018-2019 academic year was the first full implementation of the online questionnaire at King’s. “It’s been a great success at King’s,” says Thomas Gray, Academic Data and Operations Coordinator.

The feedback will positively affect King’s going forward, both with assisting Departments and Schools with course planning and because results are available to students, they will be able to use the information to aid with course selection decisions.

“The online system ensures students have a confidential, accessible, and environmentally sustainable means of contributing their feedback on courses and teaching. Students are now able to submit their feedback anytime during the one-week response window, not just during class time. The extended response window has proven to, based on the 2018-19 results, give students time to reflect and to submit well thought out written comments for their instructors to consider as they develop future versions of their courses,” says Gray.

Western University will email students a link to the online survey, focusing on each of their courses and instructors’ teaching. Because the surveys are anonymized by Western, the instructor will be unable to associate the feedback with individual students. Results are released to instructors in May after all final grades are submitted/approved by the Academic Dean.

The survey consists of 15 questions including four demographic questions and 11 scaled questions. Two comment boxes will also be provided to allow for written comments from students.

Faculty will give students 15 minutes at the beginning of each class to respond on their devices. The survey can be completed on any device, on or off-campus. Gray estimates it should take between three to five minutes to complete the questionnaires.

Students who complete their SQCT will be able entered to win a $500 Amazon gift card as part of a draw operated by Western University.
