The Cardinal Carter Library is committed to protecting the privacy of its patrons. The Library initially collects and uses personal information in order to maintain an accurate record of who may borrow materials and, in the case of members of the public and faculty and students from other educational institutions, to determine eligibility for borrowing privileges. This information is normally collected from Enrolment Services (for students), Human Resources (for King’s faculty and staff), Information Technology Services (for faculty and staff of affiliated institutions), and directly from members of the public, and faculty and students from other educational institutions. The Cardinal Carter Library may also use this personal information to provide research and reference assistance, to identify who has specific items in circulation, to notify patrons of the status of their account, to collect overdue materials or outstanding fines, and to administer enhanced services, such as the use of group or individual study rooms, AV rooms and equipment, library services for students with disabilities, or interlibrary loan. In addition, staff responsible for supporting library computer systems and administrative services may have incidental access to some personal information when conducting routine maintenance or addressing specific issues. Personal information may be shared with the libraries of The University of Western Ontario and with the libraries of Brescia University College, Huron University College, and St. Peter’s Seminary in order to provide requested services, and with Student Financial Services, Enrolment Services and Western's Office of the Registrar, should it be necessary to seal a student’s academic record due to overdue materials or outstanding fines. It may also be shared with KUC Information Technology Services and/or UWO Campus Community Police if it appears that the University’s policy on the appropriate use of computing systems has been contravened. If a specific Cardinal Carter Library function or service requires the collection, use or disclosure of additional personal information, details will be provided on the appropriate web page, in required documents, or by Library staff.
