Teaching Excellence Awards

Join us in celebrating Dr. Claudia Clausius, Professor Emerita of English, and Dr. Lucas Andersen, part-time faculty member with the School of Social Work, as they are honoured as the recipients of the 2025 King's Awards of Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Clausius will be recognized for the full-time faculty award, and Dr. Andersen will be recognized for the part-time faculty award.

The Christopher Perrin Beatty Lecture, presented annually by the King’s Full-Time Faculty Award of Excellence in Teaching recipient, was established by the Beatty family to honour the memory of their son Christopher ’07, who passed away in 2008 at the age of 23. This lecture serves as a tribute to his legacy and dedication to learning.

This year’s lecture will be delivered by Dr. Claudia Clausius, Professor Emerita of English, who will present The Past is NOT a Foreign Country. Dr. Clausius invites the audience to challenge familiar clichés about history and rediscover why our fascination with the past never fades. Through engaging stories and thought-provoking questions, she explores what draws students to study voices from centuries ago and how connecting with these writers helps us better understand ourselves and the world around us.

Following Dr. Clausius’s presentation, Dr. Lucas Andersen, part-time faculty member with the School of Social Work, will present Cultivating Learning Through Connection: The Role of Relationships, Safety, and Regulation in K–12 and Post-Secondary Education. Dr. Andersen will explore how strong relationships, emotional safety, and connection create the foundation for meaningful learning. Drawing from research and classroom experience, he will share practical ways educators can build inclusive, supportive environments where students feel seen, valued, and ready to succeed.

All are welcome to attend this inspiring celebration of teaching excellence at King’s. For planning purposes, please register by November 19.
