This message was sent out to the School of MEM students with regards to the Winter 2022 term:

Dear Students Registered In and/or Pursuing Entry Into a Program Offered by the School of Management, Economics, and Mathematics,

As Dr. Malloy, King’s President, previously announced, the start of the Winter 2022 term has been delayed to Monday, January 10, 2022, due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19. When classes do resume on January 10, all courses offered by King’s will be delivered virtually until January 31, 2022, or until public health guidelines allow for in-person instruction. Courses offered by King’s School of Management, Economics, and Mathematics (MEM), will, however, remain accessible virtually for the remainder of the Winter 2022 term.

Below is a detailed explanation of how courses will be delivered, once King’s returns to in-person instruction.

  • First Year Courses (1000 level) with 570 Section Numbers: These courses will return to in-person instruction with the rest of King’s in-person courses on January 31, 2022, or when public health guidelines allow. Students will be expected to attend these courses in-person.
  • First Year Courses (1000 Level) with 650 Section Numbers: These courses will be delivered online via an asynchronous mode of delivery with up to 25% synchronous content for the entire Winter 2022 term.
  • Second, Third, and Fourth-Year Courses with 570 Section Numbers: These courses will be offered online synchronously (via Zoom) and will be accessible virtually to all students on the scheduled day/time as per the King’s timetable. Please refer to your course outline to determine whether the option of attending lectures in-person is available (in situations where the instructor is livestreaming their lecture from the classroom).
  • Second, Third, and Fourth-Year Courses with 650 Section Numbers: These courses will be delivered online via an asynchronous mode of delivery with up to 25% synchronous content for the entire Winter 2022 term.

For students who are unable to return to Canada who are enrolled in in-person courses not offered by the School of MEM at King’s, you may need to contact Academic Counselling to alter your non-MEM electives. King’s has added “Sociology of Work” - Sociology 2145B (650) # 12961 to the timetable as an elective with no prerequisites for those students who need an additional course for the Winter 2022 term. This may be especially helpful for International students who need to maintain a workload of 3.5 credits for their Post Graduation Work Permit eligibility status. “Operations Management” - MOS 3330B (650) # 12944 also has seats remaining for those who require this course.

We know this is not the favourable mode of delivery for many of our students—this is not how the School of Management, Economics, and Mathematics had hoped to deliver its programs this academic year. We miss having you on campus and seeing you in person, and hope that soon we can put the confusion and frustration of the pandemic behind us all. Please continue to stay safe, well, and connected with the School of MEM.
