The best university cross country runners from across Canada will converge on Thames Valley Golf Course this Saturday for the 50th CIS Cross Country Championship. 31 schools will vie for the National Championship on Saturday, November 10 beginning at noon.

“This is the sixth time we’ve hosted the CIS Championships, we first hosted in 1986 and all of the Championships we’ve hosted have been on the same course at Thames Valley,” said Bob Vigars, Western cross country head coach. “You have the expertise and want to share it, and I’ve always felt a real obligation if we’re going to host a CIS Championship we’re going to make it special.”

With 31 schools coming from coast-to-coast competition will be fierce on Saturday afternoon and each team will be aiming to knock off the perennial powerhouse Guelph Gryphons. The Gryphons have captured the last six CIS Championships on the men’s side and the past seven CIS Championships on the women’s.

Coming in as the defending champions the Gryphons will be challenged by other top Canadian schools including McMaster, McGill, Victoria, and Western in the women’s competition while Windsor, Regina, Victoria, and McMaster are some of the main threats to the champions on the men’s side.

The championship events kick off Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. and all media are invited to attend a media conference at the Delta Armouries Hotel in the Gunnery Ballroom. Coaches and athletes representing teams from across the country will be in attendance and available to speak with the media.

Following that the teams will hit the course out at Thames Valley for practice beginning at noon, before they head to The Great Hall at Somerville House for the CIS Championship Banquet on Friday evening.

The competition takes place on Saturday at Thames Valley Golf Course. The women’s race begins at noon then the men’s race starts at 1:00 p.m.
