The King’s Player is performing their annual winter Musical this month in Kenny Theatre. “First Date” is running from January 31 through February 3. The play is about blind date newbie, Aaron who gets set up with serial-dater, Casey. A casual drink turns into a hilarious high-stakes dinner. As the date unfolds, the couple quickly finds that they are not alone. In a delightful and unexpected twist, Casey and Aaron’s inner critics take on a life of their own and begin to sing and dance them through ice-breakers, appetizers and potential conversational land mines. Can this couple turn what could be a dating disaster into something special before the check arrives?

With a membership of around 60 students, The King’s Players has a role for everyone. King’s Players is one of the most active clubs at King’s. While the exact history of the club is not know, it is believed to be as old as King’s itself. The King’s Players continue to use their traditional rehearsal site in the basement of Dante Lenardon Hall on the original stage. Since the construction of the Student Life Centre in 2014, the King’s Players have enjoyed performing on the new stage in the Kenny Theatre.

The club is open to all students in any program at King’s or Western.

On Thursdays, they meet for a weekly improv night. Students can enjoy a social gathering with a dynamic and welcoming group of friends, no audition needed. Participants can join in, or, just enjoy the antics as viewers – anything goes.

Every year, the King’s Players organize two 24-Hour-Theatre events. During a 24-hour period, the members read, memorize and rehearse a show and then present it at the end. In November 2017, the group held a 24-Hour-Theatre on “A Tribute to A Very Potter Musical” (pictured above).

Another highly-anticipated event is improv Survivor.  Like the TV show, there are individual and group challenges. The audience votes and the final two participants face-off in an improve battle. The most recent improv Survivor was held October 2017. The club's performance of “It’s Only a Play” received great reviews in November 2017.

The King's Players were recruiting new members in the Student Life Centre January 15-19 during clubs week. It's not too late to join!
