The School of Management, Economics, and Mathematics (School of MEM) has published the sixth edition of the MEM Insider. The Insider is written by students about their experiences during their time at King’s. Faculty and staff also contributed to the magazine.

The June 2021 issue of the Insider is the second to be published completely electronic. The July 2020 issue was the first. The 44-page edition is edited by Josephine Bondi ’21, who recently completed her Certificate in the Teaching and Practice of Writing at King’s.

School of MEM students wrote these articles during a very challenging school year, with many of their articles being reflections of that. Estelle Van Winckle, the Project Manager for the Insider and the School Administrator of the School of MEM, speaks to the challenges students faced with learning how to conduct interviews over Zoom and by phone. Dr. Vidya Natarajan, Writing Program Coordinator, led workshops by The Write Place to teach students these new skills. “Their amazing virtual collaboration skills in this year of physical isolation continued to bring the MEM Insider innovative and thoughtful articles,” says Van Winkle.

Student articles include: the exciting opportunities their internships have given them, the challenges that come with learning during a pandemic, adapting to online learning while moving back to their home country and life after King’s. The issue also includes a department report from Dr. Grigori Erenburg, Director of the School of MEM, a Career Readiness Series by School of MEM Program Manager, Lydia Li, a closer look at student clubs, two faculty profiles and an alumni profile.

The creation of the MEM Insider was led by Van Winckle. Layout and design were completed by Nikki Sasso Mitchell, Communications Assistant – Events and Promotion, Communications and Media Relations, with the help of Communications Interns Yichen Fang and Jansen Otten. Professional photography was by Steve Grimes of Grimes Photography. Students also contributed to photography with their own photos.

The MEM Insider, originally known as the EBM Insider, was first published in June 2016. A student-run magazine for what was then the Department of Economics, Business and Mathematics was the idea of Ester Gerassime ’18 Honours Specialization in Economics and Ruta Tewari ’17 BMOS (Hons) Finance and Administration, members of the King’s EconoMath Society (KEMS) Club.

Excellent work to everyone involved in bringing the MEM Insider to students during a challenging year.
