The spring 2020 issue of the King’s Herald magazine has been published virtually and can be viewed at https://www.kings.uwo.ca/alumni/stay-informed/kings-herald/.

The cover, with several Alumni Board members holding signs that spell out “We are all in this together #AlumniAtHome <3”, speaks to the theme of the content within the King’s Herald’s pages. “The current global climate directly influenced our content,” says Jennifer Jones, Alumni and Development Communications Specialist.

Dr. David Malloy, King’s Principal, reflects on his first six months at King’s and how the pandemic has shifted current priorities of the College. He highlights some of the many ways that the King’s community has come together during this time, noting that “although we don’t know when the campus will return to being the fully operational, vibrant and beautiful place that we all love, our community remains strong, connected, and committed to our values and vision as ‘a place to be, and a place to become.’ ”

The Pandemic’s Silver Linings Playbook, a blog entry written by Dr. Joseph Michalski, Professor of Sociology, for Psychology Today is reprinted in the King’s Herald. Other articles in the issue look at Life After King’s, a series that brings together alumni with current students to discuss careers and post-graduate work and study opportunities.

The issue explores how, since becoming a “virtual campus”, Alumni and Development has been encouraging alumni to get involved as a way to stay connected, and also to support each other and the King’s community as a whole. Opportunities include contributing to Alumni at Home postings, signing up to be a mentor for current students, submitting an alumni profile, and/or contributing to the Student Emergency Fund.

As King’s became a largely virtual campus on March 16, 2020, Alumni and Development made the decision to continue to work on the King’s Herald, but not as if it were “business as usual.” In years past, a PDF version of the magazine was posted on the King’s website. Beginning with the Spring 2020 issue, specific articles will be posted on the website, giving readers an option to read the full magazine or select articles in a more interactive way.

Published twice a year, the King’s Herald highlights achievements of alumni and friends of King’s, and shares campus news and milestones.
