King’s University College has signed to Commute Ontario and is encouraging its students, faculty and staff to see what carpooling opportunities are available to them through the new Regional Rideshare program.

The King’s community can register with the Regional Rideshare ride-matching tool by visiting www.regionalrideshare.ca. Students can also access the Regional Rideshare program through the new MyKing’s Student and Employee Portal clicking on the Commute Ontario tab.

On February 1, 2019 Commute Ontario kicked off of this year’s Carpool Month campaign. The month-long campaign aims to encourage King’s students, faculty and staff to register with the Regional Rideshare to search for potential carpool partners.

All students, faculty and staff who create a new account or log into their existing account during the month of February 2019 will automatically be entered into a draw for a $500 gift card toward their gas purchases. Members of the King’s community can also earn additional entries by referring other students, faculty and staff to register on the Regional Rideshare online tool. The prize draw will take place during the week of March 4, 2019.

In addition to the Regional Rideshare program, King’s continues to encourage the King’s community to look for alternative, environmentally-friendly and active modes of transportation including walking, cycling and/or using public transit.

“The Regional Rideshare program is a great way to encourage more shared rides,” says Joe Henry, Dean of Students. “It helps promotes our commitment environmental sustainability and well-being.”  The overall goal is to reduce single occupancy travel in Ontario, ease traffic congestion and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from commuter travel.
