Join the King’s Players as they present Reefer Madness in January 2017. The musical comedy, based on a 1936 cult film, a 1998 musical, and a 2005 film presents a satirical and political commentary of clean-cut kids that fall prey to mischief. Shelby Price is the director of this winter’s musical in the Kenny Theatre. She says, “King’s Players is just like family, the club in general, but also this musical. We all know each other so well. This year’s production is running smoothly. We’ve had bumps in the road, but this has been a strong year overall. The cast is phenomenal and so talented.”

This year’s musical production has 23 cast members and 10 crew members, all current and past students. After practicing every Tuesday and Sunday for upwards of 10 hours per week, the cast and crew are nearly ready to hit the stage.

When: Wednesday, January 25 – Saturday, January 28. 8:00 p.m. nightly

Where: Joanne and Peter Kenny Theatre, located in the Darryl J. King Student Life Centre at King's University College, 266 Epworth Ave., London.

Tickets: $20 for adults and $15 for students, seniors, and club members. Tickets are now available online at Eventbrite, and by emailing kingsplayersmusical@gmail.com. Starting in January 2017, tickets will also be available at the King’s Connection in the Darryl J. King Student Life Centre.

King’s Players is one of the most active clubs at King’s where current and past students come together as a theatre group. While the exact history of the club is not known, it is believed to be as old as King’s itself. As a 50-60-year-old club, the King’s Players still, to this day, stick to their traditional rehearsal site in the basement of Dante Lenardon Hall on the old stage. Christine Gruenbauer is the Producer for Reefer Madness musical. She says, “I am an alumni and King’s Players is one of the reasons why I keep coming back to campus and giving all my efforts to the university. It’s such a great group of people and they all make a great family.”

Along with meeting every Thursday night for Improv Night at 9:30 p.m., the King’s Players also hold multiple events throughout the year, such as: Improv Wars, Survivor, 24-hour Theatre, and their annual musical (held in January) and the play (held now in the early Spring).

Auditions for the spring play will be held mid-January 2017 into early February. Check the King’s Players social media for details in the coming weeks.

The King’s Players are always looking for past and present students to join and sign up. For more information, contact the King’s Players on Facebook or kingsplayersmusical@gmail.com
