Women’s rugby player Lori Josephson and football player Garret Sanvido have been named the Western Mustangs Goodlife Fitness Athletes of the Week for September 24-30.

Josephson, a King’s University College student from Beaverton, Ontario, scored 10 points in Saturday’s commanding 57-15 win over the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. Her two tries in Saturday’s contest gives her 35 points on the season, which ranks her sixth in the OUA, and second on the Mustangs, one point behind Meaghann Buitinga.

“Lori has scored in every game we've played this season, averaging 9 points per game. She is a dynamic player and possesses incredible speed,” said head coach Natascha Wesch.

Sanvido, a King’s College student from Vancouver, BC, had another outstanding game on the ground, racking up 205 yards on 24 carries with two touchdowns in Saturday’s 46-23 win over the Windsor Lancers. Sanvido leads the country in yards (582), yards per game (145.5) and rushing touchdowns (7) heading into this week’s Yates Cup rematch with McMaster.

“[Garret’s] come into his own, he’s been running the ball well for us,” said head coach Greg Marshall. “In Saturday’s win against Windsor he had some outstanding runs, he’s consistent in how he’s carrying the ball. He’s a dependable back, who’s been making some great plays.”

This is the second time Sanvido has been named Goodlife Fitness Athlete of the Week this year, previously winning it after rushing for 144 yards and three touchdowns in the season opener against Waterloo.
