Congratulations to King’s student-athletes on the Western Mustangs football team who received special honours at the annual USports awards.

Marc Liegghio, 5th Year Major in Criminology major with minors in Sociology and Disability Studies, was named to the All-Canadian first team as the country’s top punter/placekicker.

"It was an honour to be nominated as an All-Canadian, and to win it is a great experience. I have been blessed to be a three-time All-Canadian, and this year is extra special being named First Team All-Canadian for both punting and kicking. It is amazing to be sitting among the top talent in Canada. Being a student-athlete at King's is pretty special. The smaller classroom size and the support from the professors and staff are what allows us to be successful on the field and in the classroom. I truly believe that being a student-athlete at King's has been a contributing factor to my successful career as a Western Mustang," says Liegghio.

Named to the All-Canadian second team were Brett Ellerman, receiver and Zachary Fry, offensive tackle. Ellerman is a 5th Year Disability Studies and Criminology Major while Fry is in his 2nd Year studying BMOS at King's.

"I’m truly blessed and honoured to be named to the All-Canadian team. It wouldn’t be possible without my teammates, coaches, and family. King's is always making sure student-athletes are getting the best experience on and off the field and making us feel a part of a huge family," says Fry.

"Being named to the all-Canadian teams is quite an accomplishment and it is an honor to be recognized as such. It is hard work to be a student-athlete trying to balance both school and football, but it really teaches you how to manage your time. I have enjoyed my time at King’s over the past few years," says Ellerman.

The awards were announced in Quebec City on November 23, 2019, at the annual USports football recognition ceremony prior to the Vanier Cup.
