At a reception held at the Library on December 9, 2014, the Folger Shakespeare Library Director Dr. Michael Witmore presented Dr. Paul Werstine, Professor of English at King’s, and Dr. Barbara A. Mowat with awards for their editing of Shakespeare. Werstine’s award reads:

The Folger Shakespeare Library and lovers of Shakespeare everywhere thank Paul Werstine for his scrupulous editing of the entire canon of Shakespeare’s Works  to the highest standards of textual  scholarship. This award celebrates his learning and authority, his years of patient and devoted labor, and his belief in Shakespeare’s unique importance to the Humanities.

Werstine and Mowat have edited Shakespeare’s plays and poems in “The New Folger Library Shakespeare,” a series of forty-two books published by Simon & Schuster in New York City between 1992 and 2010. To keep the edition current, the two editors embarked in 2009 on an updated edition of the series, in which eight of the books have reappeared or at press. The edition is also available in a wide variety of electronic formats, including those for the iPad and the Kindle.  Their edited texts of the Shakespeare plays and poems are available for free as the Folger Digital Texts at www.folgerdigitaltexts.org/

The Folger Shakespeare Library is a privately funded research library dedicated to Shakespeare and the civilization of early modern Europe.  Founded in 1932, it holds the largest collection of books related to Shakespeare in the world.
