23 Years Since the Decolonization of Europe's Last Asian Colony

Please join us for a special lecture by Joshua Lash-Ballew, International Affairs Regional Manager of University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macau. This event is open to students, faculty, and staff.

You're invited to a special lecture by Joshua Lash-Ballew, International Affairs Regional Manager of University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macau. Macau, often referred to as the "Las Vegas of the East", has become a major resort city and a top destination in Asia. Under Portuguese rule since the 1500's, China regained control to Macau in 1999 under the "one country, two systems" arrangement. This talk will explore how the handover came about, how "memories" of the colonial past are (re)invented to serve the present, and what the future might hold for Macao as a Special Administrative Region of China. Macau is currently one of King's exchange partners.
