King’s University College Students’ Council (KUCSC) has continued with its work despite the unexpected ending of the 2019-2020 year. In carrying on with Students’ Council work, the KUCSC has appointed Madison Hendriksen as the Chief Communications Officer (CCO) and Mohamed Faroukh as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the upcoming year. The new council will officially start work on May 1, 2020 under the leadership of incoming President Ben Kitching.

The newly elected CCO, Madison Hendriksen is excited about being named councils head of communications. Hendriksen is in her third year completing an Honours Specialization in Social Justice and Peace Studies (SJPS). Besides her studies, she has been involved in many initiatives on campus, including being a Senior Peer Learning Coach at the STARS Learning Lab, Residence Assistance (RA), KAMP Mentor, and a Media Commissioner.

Hendriksen believes that her love for being a Media Commissioner led her to express creativity. A media commissioner takes photos, videos and uses social media at KUCSC events, activities and initiatives that include, but are not limited to Club Events, Awareness Weeks, Speaker Events, and major KUCSC Events (e.g. King’s Ball, Speaker Series, Frost Week).

“Being a Media Commissioner is really what drove me to apply for the CCO position. I think the CCO position provides a great opportunity to give back to the King's Community, and I could not be more thankful for being elected for this position. Holding the CCO title means a lot to me, mostly because it means that my KUCSC peers had enough trust in me to vote me in for this position. I am very thankful for that trust, and I plan to give my 100% in this role. I can't wait to create and collaborate with my KUCSC peers!” says Hendriksen.

The new CFO, Mohamed Faroukh is going into his third year in Honours Specialization in Finance and Administration. Finance is a field that he’s been passionate about since high school. The previous Charity Commissioner of the KUCSC, Faroukh, picked the KUCSC’s charity organization YOU (Youth Opportunity Unlimited) to support youth reach their potential through education, skills training, and employment.

Faroukh was elected as the Chief Financial Officer after an examination process to prove candidates met the requirements. Faroukh scored in the 93rd percentile in the exam that tested his knowledge in math, and accounting skills.

“Being the CFO means that I can help make King’s a better place and make sure that students get the most for their money here at King’s. I want to make sure that every dollar is directed on improving the student experience at King’s and making it feel like home,” says Faroukh.
