A message from Dr. David Malloy, King's Principal:

A King’s University College male student is in self-isolation in the residence complex after testing positive for COVID-19 on April 11, 2020. The student went into isolation on April 4, 2020 and has not been in contact with any students, staff or faculty since that time.

It was a voluntary self-isolation in a separate residence building after the student reported having a cough. This isolation follows King’s protocols and public health guidelines. The student was tested on April 4, 2020. The results came back today. At the same time, the student reports feeling better each day and has not been hospitalized. The student had not travelled abroad.

The student will be tested again on April 13, 2020 and on April 20, 2020. All isolation protocols implemented by King’s have been reviewed by the Middlesex-London Public Health Unit. King’s residence staff remain in daily, remote, contact with the student and deliver food to him. Further actions on the care of the student, and the safety of the remaining 50 residence students and staff on campus, will be directed by public health and followed by King’s. No other cases or reports of illness have come forward on campus. The health unit will monitor the student’s health to determine any next steps if needed.

King’s residence continues to provide, on a limited basis, housing for students who were unable to return home due to travel restrictions or other issues. King’s became a largely virtual campus on March 16, 2020. An essential services team provides cleaning, sanitizing and food delivery daily. King's Residence students have been notified of the situation.

Any members of the King’s community who are concerned or feeling unwell can attend one of the two assessment centres in London.

“While this news is certainly upsetting for the student involved, we are grateful that he has not been hospitalized. On behalf of the King's community, I wish the student a speedy recovery,” says Dr. David Malloy, King’s Principal. “Our residence staff are available to discuss any concerns with the remaining residents, provide access to health advice and support. I am also available to speak to anyone who has concerns as well.”
