The King’s Players will be performing “Catch Me If You Can” from Jan. 30th to Feb. 2nd 2019 at the Kenny Theatre between 8 p.m.–10 p.m. The musical-comedy is based on the 2002 film and the true story of Frank Abignale Jr., of how he was able to achieve his dreams while avoiding the FBI. The story brings to life themes about financial, marital and legal issues.

Thalia Ranjbar, fifth-year Western student in English with a minor in Dance and Director of Catch Me If You Can, says “not only is the story well-known and highly entertaining, but we can ultimately promise a dynamic and engaging show as it has something for everyone.”

The King’s Players decided to perform “Catch Me If You Can” through the recommendation of Ranjbar, because the show had an opportunity for multiple dance numbers. The show’s “music and recognizable name makes it a true piece of history,” says David Carlson, third-year Political Science student at King’s and President of the King’s Players Theatre Company.

The production of “Catch Me If You Can” includes approximately 40 members working as the cast, dancers, and musicians, or as part of the costume, production and set design teams.

“The rehearsals are in a really good spot even with the time off over the holidays because the crew is very passionate to take time during the break to prepare and practice on their own,” Carlson says. Ranjbar adds, “They (the cast) are so kind to one another, they support each other, and there is such a good positive energy in our rehearsals that I am so grateful for.”

The King’s Players Theatre Company is a student-run production company that has continued to grow since early productions in the 1980’s. They run a fall play which has brought to life favourites such as: “It’s Only A Play”, “The Princess Bride”, “The Real Inspector Hound”, and last November’s “Dog Sees God.” They also produce a spring musical which has inspired by many classics including: “First Date”, “Grease”, “Reefer Madness”, and this month’s “Catch Me If You Can.”

Tickets are currently being sold for $15 each for students and $20 for the public through the Facebook Event Page or Eventbrite and will soon be available at the King's Connection in the Student Life Centre. The next major production will take place in Fall 2019 to be announced after the director is selected.
