From Lund, Sweden, Emelie Lefevre is a second-year student studying a bachelor’s degree in International Business and Marketing at Kristianstad University in Sweden. Lefevre came to King’s for the Winter 2019 semester as part of the international exchange student program. While at King’s, she studied business and economics courses. Lefevre loved her time at King’s so much she decided to share her experiences with students in Sweden on the Kristianstad University Facebook and Instagram pages.

“My university at home wanted me to share my story with the other students to draw awareness to the student exchange program offered and show off one of the universities students can have the opportunity to go to. I was honoured to have the chance to share my fabulous experience at King’s,” Lefevre says.

Lefevre posted about how she lived in the townhouse residence on King’s campus. It was the first time she got to experience living with a roommate. This is less common in Sweden, she says. Living on campus allowed her to connect with other international students on weekends at the International House on campus. She said the friendships she made with these students helped create a new home for her at King’s.

Lefevre also shared one of her most memorable experiences this semester. “I participated in the King’s, Huron and Brescia trip to Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City during the reading week break. This was a great way to explore more of Canada and bond with the other students on the trip. We all became much closer after this week away. I really enjoyed going to the Ice Hotel in Quebec City, and the tube park was a lot of fun!”

One of the resources King’s offered that helped make the transition to studying abroad in Canada easier was the King’s International Office. Lefevre posted on social media how King’s International was great at answering any questions she had before arriving in Canada and provided an excellent orientation weekend where she learned about King’s, Western University and the city of London.

“Linda, Maggie and Olivia in the International Office were so welcoming and supportive. I am also very grateful for the International peer guides who helped me in those early weeks. As well, my Residence Assistant has constantly been supportive and a friendly face throughout the semester,” Lefevre adds.

King’s International Office noted there were 60 total international students who studied here during the 2018-2019 academic year.

“We were pleased to have Emelie study with us at King’s this term. She was very involved in our programming events throughout the semester and a fantastic global ambassador. We wish her all the best when she returns to Kristianstad University,” says Maggie Burton, Exchange and International Student Advisor, King’s International.

Lefevre added she would be open to sharing more information with fellow King’s students looking to expand their knowledge and gain international experience abroad in Sweden.
