A special teach-in, Women at King’s, was held in the Spriet Learning Commons at the Student Life Centre on January 17, 2020 included faculty, students and alumni. It was organized by several female faculty at King’s including Dr. Jackie Newman.

Speakers at the teach-in included:

  • Dr. Carrie Arnold, Assistant Professor of Thanatology, who spoke of grief, anger and millions of tiny acts to change the world.
  • Dr. Lynne Jackson, Associate Professor of Psychology, who spoke about bias, gender equality and affirmative meritocracy.
  • Dr. Kristin Lozanski, Associate Professor of Sociology, who discussed her research on intersections of inequality in the context of reproduction rights in Canada.
  • Dr. Renée Soulodre-LaFrance, Professor of History, who discussed slavery and child murder: imminent separation.
  • Dr. Kimberly Baltzer-Jaray, Professor of Social Justice and Peace Studies

Current students and alumnae took part in a round table discussion about women in leadership roles at King’s. They spoke about how the community of women at King’s and encourage and empower one other to take on leadership roles.

The women in Civic Leadership class including Prof. Shawna Lewkowitz of King’s Social Justice and Peace Studies department and Prof. Anne Marie DeCicco-Best of Brescia’s Political Science department led a discussion of research projects presented by their students.

“Today we are celebrating the many remarkable women in our community who are leaders in the academy. These presentations today will allow us to discuss these outstanding, innovative and challenging research,” said Dr. David C. Malloy, King’s Principal.
