The Write Place

THE WRITE PLACE is a free and confidential service provided by the Modern Languages Department. We are committed to helping all students become better writers! Students from all disciplines are encouraged to visit for help with any assignment: academic essays, book reviews, graduate school applications, creative writing, and much more! We can help at any stage of the writing process -- from brainstorming ideas to helping students learn to revise and edit their own work.

What We Do:

Trained Peer Tutors give feedback on many aspects of writing; rather than editing, we help students to become better writers by focusing on areas such as clarity, structure, cohesion, and mechanics. We listen and provide an honest response.

The Critical Reading Specialist, Dr. Jennifer Ingrey, helps students develop reading strategies to comprehend difficult texts, build vocabulary, summarize readings, and hone critical thinking skills.

The ESL Writing Specialist, Prof. Ruth Yu, provides personalized help with Canadian English, including grammar and vocabulary, as well as facilitating workshops.

The Effective Writing Instructor, Prof. Jeremy Greenway, provides analysis of writing problems in individual appointments and offers expert advice in developing writing skills.

The English Conversation Group is an informal drop-in opportunity to practice English speaking skills with other students.

Creative Writing feedback and workshops are also available!

Contact THE WRITE PLACE for more information regarding any of our services!
