Outgoing International Exchange Benefits
Studying and/or volunteering abroad benefits students academically, professionally and personally. The information below outlines some of the benefits of studying outside of Canada.
Academic
Through international experience students are able to more fully develop their problem solving skills, applying educational curricula in a real world environment and gaining first-hand exposure to the culture, language, economy and history of another country. Opportunities are available to receive course credit for some international study experiences.
Professional
Students are able to initiate and expand professional contacts, and work in new environments while benefiting from practical international experience.
Personal
After studying or volunteering abroad students often return to their home country with increased self-confidence, maturity, tolerance and an understanding of the world in which they live. Students who are exposed to impoverished regions of the world often return with a greater awareness of both suffering and privilege.
Intercultural
Students have the opportunity to become more culturally sensitive and accepting through intercultural exposure. This is further strengthened by programs which offer students the opportunity to develop their foreign language skills
