Stephanie Bangarth Attends “From Kinshasa to Kandahar: Canadian Diplomacy in Fragile States, 1960-2011” at Grant McEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta
On February 2nd, 2012, Grant McEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta held a workshop titled “From Kinshasa to Kandahar: Canadian Diplomacy in Fragile States, 1960-2011”. The workshop was funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DEFAIT) and brought together civil servants and academics from all across Canada to discuss Canada’s place in the world, past and present.
Stephanie Bangarth, King’s associate professor of the Department of History, was invited to present her research on Canada's response to the Biafran-Nigerian Civil War of 1967-1970. Bangarth’s talk was titled “The Politics of African Intervention: Canada and Biafra, 1967-1970”. Bangarth would like to thank King's and the SSHRCC for funding parts of her research project, as well as thank Matthew Brown, Aileen Gnov, Caitlin McCuaig, and Emma Swiatek (Cereghini), King’s History students who assisted Bangarth, and who, she explains, “embody the very best of our undergraduate students.”
