Guatemala bound

Guatemala bound

For eight days, three professors and eight students will be experiencing Guatemalan culture and exploring various justice issues as part of an educational trip that departed on February 15. The trip is part of a half-credit program that has already included readings and meetings regarding Guatemalan themes and issues. The students will also be submitting a paper after returning discussing reflections and research conducted while in the country.

The group will be visiting a number of important sites including a nutritional centre, an Indigenous womens’ cooperative, coffee plantation, and a memorial and massacre site.

“I really hope that this trip is a broad introduction for these students in a range of Guatemalan justice issues,” notes Allyson Larkin one of the trip coordinators.

Stacey, a 2nd year SJPS student notes “I went to Guatemala as a child and am looking forward to returning. I’m excited to begin understanding the issues and what is going on there.”
