King’s Principal, Dr. David Sylvester, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Julie Horne as the new Director of Human Resources, effective January 9, 2017. Ms. Horne will succeed Ms. Veronika Elsie, who will retire on January 20, 2017 after a decade of exemplary service to King’s. Ms. Horne’s appointment follows a national search by the Selection Committee, chaired by the Principal and composed of representatives of faculty, staff, students and the Board of Directors.

Ms. Horne joins King’s with 15 years of experience in human resources, most recently at the Lawson Health Research Institute, London, where she served as a Manager for the past five years. At Lawson, she was responsible for Human Resources, Health & Safety and Biological Safety for approximately 1,500 Research Staff, which included doctors, scientists, faculty, research staff and students. Her experience at Lawson pairs well with her new position at King’s where she will work with staff, faculty and students on employment contracts, negotiations and policies.  Prior to her employment at Lawson, Ms. Horne worked in Human Resources at St. Joseph’s Health Care, McCormick Canada and Electro-Motive Canada.

“Our staff and faculty are at the centre of the King’s experience and we carefully considered who would lead our human resources team,” says Dr. Sylvester. “Julie’s experience will further King’s commitment to create a healthy and rewarding workplace environment for our entire community.”

Ms. Horne is pleased to be joining King’s University College. “I’m looking forward to the challenge of continuing the excellent work of the Human Resources Department in its mission to develop and foster a productive, creative, respectful and harmonious work environment committed to diversity, equity and fairness.  Thank you for welcoming me into the King’s family," she says.

Ms. Horne holds a B.A in psychology from the University of Windsor, a certificate in Human Resources Management from Fanshawe College, as well as certificates in Human Resources Leadership and Occupational Health and Safety.

Please join us in welcoming Julie to King's.
